Fashion Favours the Brave

by Katie Wright

In addition to the glut of glamazons who together put on a masterclass in classic red carpet dressing at last week’s Costume Institute ball, there was another slew of stars who arguably deserve higher praise, for these ladies managed to stand out from the crowd of metallic column dresses and maintain a style all their own.

Way ahead of the pack was Chloe Sevigny who showed us how to wear the mini this season. Sporting a short full-skirted embroidered lace teal cocktail dress by Proenza Schouler, no one could get any more fashion forward than this Following suit was Blake Lively in an elegant Marchesa peacock draped chiffon strapless dress with ruffled shoulder detail. Then of course Sarah Jessica Parker, who stood out in her Halston Heritage dress and sported a large hair accessory that was more Carrie Bradshaw than SJP.

Alexa Chung perhaps was the only one to stand out rocking an androgynous look in this 3.1 Philip Lim tuxedo. Another look that stood out for me was Chanel Iman’s. What her Michael Kors lame gold jumpsuit lacked in silhouette it more than made up for in glitz appeal. And finally, following the all important style commandment of thou shalt bare either cleavage or legs but never both – Gisele Bundchen had a bit of a dark but sexy moment in this Alexander Wang dress. So which of this odd red carpet looks rocked your world the most?
