Behind the high street|Trends

Does this ever happen to you? When you realize that you’ve formed an opinion for one reason or another, about a store that makes it impossible to think of stepping in, let alone shop there? And then for some reason, when you finally do, realize you’d been wrong all along? Well I had that happen to me last week, when I was invited to view the Wolford AW10 collection, and I spotted this green Bailey dress, for me, it evoked the memory of the sixties, the era of the Mod fashion. I was not far off from the facts as I was informed that Wolford had just turned Sixty and to celebrate, they created a Sixties-inspired collection for next season.

As fashion is now leaving the eighties and slowly entering into the Nineties, it was refreshing to see something from a completely different era. Their Sixties collection pays homage to top model icons such as Catherine Deneuve and Jean Shrimpton,so be on the look out for some flower-patterned fine lace body and stockings, echoed in glittering Swarovski crystals appliqué. The Sixties collection will be available to buy in August while the Bailey dress will be available to buy in July but they currently have other on-trend items you can check out, for instance in keeping with the trend of the moment, you can get this ultra feminine lace string floral body that is currently being sold for £160.

Another store misconception i had which wasn’t quite misguided, was about Coast. I have always assumed that people who shopped at Coast were in the process of planning or having a wedding, and since I am close to neither, I carefully avoid going in. Then I got invited to try out their Coast by Appointment – a new service that promises to give shoppers their own free personal stylist in the privacy of a secluded area(I quite liked the lush décor of this ultra-comfortable room) where you can try on as many outfits as you wish, (and I confirmed this) without having to buy.

What if you don’t have wedding on your mind? They explained that Coast is changing, courtesy of their new creative director-Ann Hardiman- who joined the company in January. I would never have thought it possible but I saw some unusual choices in their collection like Breton stripe tops, quirky cocktail dresses adorned with oversized corsage, and more. However, they still cater to those in need of occasion wear but its just that they have decided to cater to all women who just want to look and feel great. My favourite from the Coast SS10 collection is definitely this Breton Stripe knit over crop trousers that costs £65 and £80 respectively. To book their new Coast by Appointment service, call Coast at any time. You can quote me on the “you don’t have to buy to enjoy this service”, bit. Happy shopping!
