You may or may not have heard but following last season’s catwalk crash at Emanuel Ungaro, with bated breaths we all waited to see what monstrosities Lindsay Lohan might create a second time around. But just 24 hours before the show, a statement was released from the Ungaro camp revealing that Lohan had no input whatsoever in the label’s autumn/winter 10 collection. You could practically hear the collective sigh (or should that be tweets?) of relief, because the last (and only) collection produced under the ‘creative direction’ of the starlet was universally panned. With this show, head designer- Estrella Archs tried hard to undo the damage that had been blamed solely on her former celebrity colleague, but was it a little too late?
It was a shaky start to say the least. Cream leopard print trousers, a raspberry top, mint bandeau and mustard blazer seemed all a bit too much at first, and this hodge-podge of colours and layers continued apace, encompassing loose dresses and more slouchy blazers in tweed, tomato red and grey. The over indulgence of those eighties colours did nothing to help but where Archs was more successful was, ironically enough, were those cocktail dresses that Lohan would no doubt love. The pleated and rouched pink satin number may be ‘Lanvin lite’, but it worked. It looks like the Ungaro team has managed to pull the brand back from the precipice of fashion fate for now, but there’s still a fair way to go not to mention a lot of hard work before the memories of ‘Lohangate’ becomes a distant regrettable mistake never to be repeated, even by Li-Lo again.
