Digital print for spring?|Trends

Fashion week may have come and gone but Digital print is well and truly upon us as it was a runway staple throughout the London AW10 shows. The first one i saw was by husband and wife duo Aminaka Wilmont. They presented a marine inspired collection which began with a series of  print silk jersey slash neck dresses in ocean colours of green and blue, draped around the body and gently twisted in an almost Grecian fashion creating a fluid silhouette. And so this trend continued as i spotted more of this kind of print through fashion week. The other one that stood our for me was translated onto glamorous dresses by Belle Sauvage . He showed a lot of digital printed shift dresses and leggings, something his client-Lady Gaga- would be proud of.

It seems the next cold season will see us in vibrant prints to warm us up but you don’t have to wait that long to be seen in it. You can be fashion forward in this digital print shift dress by Mary Katrantzou that costs £785 now selling at Browns or you could try it on as leggings instead. ASOS is selling this Ostwald Helgason print leggings for £65. Whichever way you choose to wear your digital print – be it long, draped or twisted, make sure its fitted to your body for that glam effect.

I saw both those shows, too (Aminaka Wilmont and Belle Sauvage) and was captivated, as well. The Belle Sauvage show felt inspired by Avatar (altho they didn’t say they were in the material) and I found myself wishing the colours moved more into the turquoise/green range of the rainbow. I fell in love with Mary Kantrantzou’s work last September, just from her exhibition. Oh btw I believe she’s also currently doing a cheap line for Topshop!

It takes a certain amount of courage to wear these prints. The thing about last year’s black/grey trends were, women could hide and keep a low profile and feel it is slimming, etc. It’s impossible to hide in digital prints, but that’s kind of the point, isn’t it?

I am in love with those Ostwald Helgason leggings! Nothing is as fun as colorful digital print. I wish more women had the courage to be so daring as to don bold graphics and colors.

Digital print is here to stay, the future of prints is abstract and it can only get better
