There was a hint of Galliano at the Manish Arora AW10 show for Paris Fashion Week. The face paint and wild hair colours could have been a distraction from the clothes but for the Art Deco inspired collection which introduced rebellious shapes in Bollywood colours. Rich purple, pink orange, blue, yellow, grey and green filled the colour palette as traditional yet advanced India crafts of embroidery and beading were worked into each piece. Asymmetric lines and fluid shapes, converge with plunging necklines and sharp shoulders for a futuristic silhouette. One jacket resembled a sliced open mushroom with soft shoulders and exaggerated volume. Silk jodhpurs in bright prints were worn with matching or sequin tops. Prints were a mixture of graphic and digital with sequinned embellishments. This seemingly kitsch collection was heavily eclectic and fun, introducing Indian colours to western shapes. Definitely for Manish, more is best.
