Anne Hathaway enjoys Valentine’s Day in Marchesa

by Katie Wright

There was a fierce style battle raging this week on the red carpet at the LA première of Valentine’s Day. Well, what else would you expect when the cast features a slew of Hollywood’s finest young dress-wearers?… er, I mean, actresses. Jennifer Garner aptly wore Valentino, plus both Jessicas (Alba and Biel) both turned heads (although Biel, in a frilly Oscar de la Renta confection was more of a confectionery than stunning) but for me it was Anne Hathaway who shone the brightest in her shocking-blue Marchesa minidress.

Like the coat of an Amazonian bird, this dress clings so tightly that it looks like the royal blue and turquoise feathers have been pasted directly onto Anne’s skin. It’s a touch more risqué than your typical Marchesa dress. Designer- Georgina Chapman is known for her use of restrained volume and architecture on demure yet dramatic gowns – and that hemline is shorter than we’ve seen of late from Miss Hathaway, but this is a fashion-forward move that totally works.

Want some of that feathery feel for your very own wardrobe but can’t afford to splash a month’s salary in one go? Shopbop has a great alternative in black. This Haute Hippie Ostrich Cocktail Dress is $595 with free worldwide shipping.
